Thoughts on this Feuchtwanger Cent?

I've been looking for a feuchtwanger cent for a long time and even in MS, it's almost impossible to find one with a good strike where you can see the feather details. I was offered this one for $500 and wanted to get some thoughts on it. The coin is an NGC MS63 and looks really original which I like. But the price is quite a bit higher than what I have seen most other ms63 examples sell for. I wanted to get some other thoughts on it, and candid feedback is appreciated.

Very nice example. I don't know the varieties for these off the top of my head, but they can make a difference in price. Still, it doesn't strike me as totally unreasonable for a choice example with nice eye appeal.

Excellent condition, original surfaces and great eye appeal. I’d rather pay a bit more to have a coin which meets “my” standards than being disappointed later.

+1 to the above. Surfaces look choice for the grade, nice coin.

If I had seen this one when I went through my Feuchtwanger phase, I would have been tempted, not by the price as much as by the coin itself. I would have seriously considered it for the price, though.

Here are the ngc photos under the cert. I'd be more on board if not for the black spotting on the surface like under the eagles neck. I think the original photos I posted may not be 100% accurate of the coin in hand.

I wanted one of these not long ago. I attended a show and was a bit surprised at the number of vendors that had these. The one I ended up buying was an XF45 and I spent $225.00. The MS63 you are showing is spectacular compared to mine. Yes, I believe at $500.00 that would certainly be a fair purchase. Love your prospective coin and hope you get it.

I don’t personally find them too distracting (I like both sets of photos), but if it bothers you I’d say better to trust your gut and keep looking.

63 is a weird grade; sometimes the technical issue(s) are a deal breaker, sometimes the coin still rocks.

One good place to do research is the Heritage auction. You can look up just about everything in the American series. It’s well worth opening an account. You find a lot Feuchtwanger Cents there, including quite a number of higher grade pieces.

Here is the coin that is in my collection. I have never had it graded, but view it as a Choice AU that would probably make it into an MS-62 holder.

That is a fine example but I think $500 is a bit too high considering those black spots. Personally, I would rather have a lower grade but cleaner example.
