Hi Yes, imho it looks like a die crack. From above the “F” to through America. No chips that I see. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=Die+crack
Die chips are extremely common on Morgan dollars because it takes 130-150 tons of pressure to strike each coin. Chris
All Morgan and Peace dollars are classified as VAM's. Rarely will you ever find one attributed for a die crack or die chip because they are that common. It doesn't matter. That is why I can't understand why some collectors get so excited about cracks & chips on other denominations. FWIW, I don't see a die chip, either. Chris
I will get on vamword. Curious, Is there a definition word for the string of silver at the top of the coin? I really tried on this one. Would really like to know what you see...
If you are referring to the line that begins in the denticles above the "F" and extends through the tops of "AMER", that is a die crack. Like I said, they are common. I had an 1899-O that had the crack running around the entire perimeter, through USofA, ONE DOLLAR, both stars and the tips of the eagle's wings. Chris
I believe my coin resembles http://vamworld.com/wiki/1921-D_VAM-4A#http:.2F.2Fwww.vamworld.com.2F1921-D.2BVAM-4A_VAM_4A I’m not saying it’s rare- just trying to figure all of this out. Thank you for your replies
