Do have a better picture (close-up) of the area in question ie hairline, near the ear etc

It is the hair on top above his forehead and I will have to see if I can take a better one after work this afternoon. These are the same pictures just cropped more. I don't think it will make a difference.

i see nothing that looks like an error, looks more like it took a hit in that area above his forehead..

Thank you. I am just getting started and am not quite sure what I am looking at. I wish i could get a better picture because it looks nothing like what I see with the magnifying glass.

Welcome to Coin Talk Mountain girl. I'm not sure what type of camera you are using, but in order to actually see the details, it would help if you can get a clear, close-up of the area you have questions about. Are you comparing it to pennies from the same year and MM?

You can usually get good full coin pics from dslr cameras, but for close-ups you may have to get a macro lens. Some newer cameras have auto-focus and zoom lenses that do not allow the attachment of macro lenses and the macro "settings" built in don't get close enough for clear photos. Consult your instruction manual or look it up on line to see if your camera has these capabilities.

A note on lighting coins for photos...2 small lamps at 10 and 2 o'clock, respectively, will illuminate very well for most photos, and to reduce glare and reflection, diffusing is needed. The wattage doesn't need to be more than about 40 watts for each lamp.

Research all of this before you buy anything new...hope this helps...Spark
