    Hi Everyone

It's been a long time since I posted on here, but I need the community's help.

My currency collection was stolen in St George, UT not far from Las Vegas NV. My entire life's savings tied into the collection.

Can y'all please keep a lookout for the following notes on auction sites? Besides a police report, what other things can I do? Can I notify PMG/PCGS in case a dealer buys it and submits it for grading?

Also, if anyone can post a link to this thread on the PCGS forums, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll post other notes in this thread as I'm able to recover some photos. Unfortunately, my laptop was taken with the list of serial numbers.

The 1928 $1 Red Seal is no longer in its holder. I cut it out when I received it.

Sorry to hear the unfortunate news.

Love the paper wave on the LT Ace. I’ll keep an eye out.

Oh, man... I'm so sorry to learn of this and wish you the absolute best of luck in what is certainly a most difficult and trying situation.

Perhaps this may be of some help as well?

I live in St. George, Utah. No... I did not do it. I am so sorry this happened to you. I would go to all the pawn shops search there first. Go to the only coin shop "Allgood Coins". call every pawn shop and coin shop in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. try and get a list of all your currency. photo's on a flash drive would be very helpful to the police and coin shops. Copy and save every photo of your best ones from here on CoinTalk and color print them out.

Was your laptop backed up to a cloud application? If so, your list of serial numbers may be there.

@funkee The suggestion by @BooksB4Coins is likely the best option for you.

    Did this happen recently?

my guess is they will not try and sell them here in St. George or in Salt Lake City. my guess is they will try and sell them at the next coin show in Las Vegas. I know they have currency dealers at these Vegas shows. If I were you I would be at those next coins shows with photos of your best bills early. I would literally get sick if my coin collection was stolen. I have saved pics of all my coins on 4 flash drives. 1 flashdrive in my car (yes), 1 flash drive at my parents house (yes) 1 by my computer. 1 in a dresser drawer (yes). I have lists of my coins with the prices I paid by my computer and a copy it at my parents house in case something happens to me. I pray to God that you will recover your best bills. That gold seal 20 looks so incredible probably worth a bunch of money too.

Wow - sorry to hear about that Funkee. Hope you get it all back fast. I'll keep an eye out as best I can. For what it's worth, I know of another person whose also had his collection stolen, but he has all but one note back now, so not all hope is lost. Do like Spirityoda suggests, and also let http://www.numismaticcrimes.org/ as booksb4coins suggested.

Probably people that drove up from Las Vegas, which is where it will probably show up. I would call the police in LV and Henderson to let them know to be on the watch. Contact Sahara Coins in Vegas too.
    Good luck!

Sorry to hear about losing your collection. Maybe make up a flier with police report number and contact numbers, to pass out at the pawn shops, coin dealer and coin show. The more coverage the better. Good luck and I'll keep my eyes peeled.

With no apparent description or idea of ~who~ the suspect(s) may be, it seems like everyone is going under the assumption that the rarity or value of the notes is realized and that the notes will be pawned off, try to be sold at coin shops, coin shows or offered on eBay, etc. The truth of the matter is if the thief or thieves are your typical junky addict(s) or even your typical numismatically ignorant common folk in society, the notes may well just be spent at liquor stores, exchanged at banks or casinos, etc.

Bank tellers, who are often as ignorant about older currency like your random neighbor up the street, may think nothing of exchanging these notes and sending them off with their next shipment of mutilated currency. While this greatly increases the scope of where to look for your notes, you may wish to expand the areas where these notes could turn up.

This is obviously no easy feat. Let's assume the notes are being held by someone who lives in one of the states close to the interstate from where the notes were taken. Well, that's six states there alone. So, I'd say it's one of those situations where one can hope for the best (for example that the notes turn up and are noticed by a vigilant dealer or collector) but need to be prepared for the worst (as in the notes are not heard from again).

The fact your computer was stolen makes me believe that whoever stole this was not specifically looking for old currency. Just whatever they guess is worth something

Everything of value of was taken. They went to one shop in downtown St George, from which I was able to recover a few of my large size bills and a couple of sheets.

Those two are probably my most valuable small size notes, which I posted them here.

They're smart enough not to have sold them in St George anymore, and if I think I know who they are, they might go to one of the neighboring towns including Vegas. I heard my car was seen going to a town in Cedar City. I called the shops there and no one mentioned that any currency had come in.

I know the thief found out I was there to collect my currency and didn't want to risk showing up at another pawn shop for the time being. So it may still be with him/her.

He got $800 for $5,000 worth of notes, collectible cars and valuable crystals. So I don't think he knows precisely how valuable they are.

Luckily I have the serial numbers for perhaps half of the remainder of the collection.

I will post on that site as suggested. Thank you everyone. I'll keep you posted.

Hopefully, the shop had a security camera the police can draw a photo from. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    What he said.

I surely hope they are able to not only catch the person responsible but also obtain as much of your collection as possible and your car undamaged.

I am sorry to hear that. I only have a few bank notes and know how expensive these can be. How did it get stolen?
Did you tell someone it was in your house? Did you have your life savings in a safe that was bolted down. Oh my I can only imagine how violated you must feel. I hope the best for you.

Happy to hear you got some of them back. hopefully the better ones. I hope they slip up and you get the rest back. that shop probably had a security camera in it ? most pawn shops have cameras.

If they sold them to a pawn shop in Utah, they have to give a DL for ID and be fingerprinted.
