I bought this from @C-B-D for a VERY low price. It's awesome and I couldn't be happier! Sorry for the poor crop job, and thank you to C-B-D! What does the slab say? (Hint: PCGS)
I'd say XF-40, as far as the Overton, I have no idea. I don't have the reference books to attribute it. I do know its a square base 2 though.
My grade (correct grade): VF-35 PCGS: XF-40 Yes, square base 2, hard to say which O variety from those crappy pics ;-) O-117 R3?
Thanks bud!! Honestly, I thought there'd be more guesses. I guess on Saturday night maybe only us REALLY nerdy coin guys are here.
Also, fwiw, 1827's are notorious for being the most difficult date to attribute in the Overton guide. There are a ton of them, and in many, the differences are subtle.
It's fun being crazy, the member said he picked it up at a really good price so it was a off the wall guess. The coin with out the tarnish would look fantastic as the coin has excellent definition , and the features seem very good. The coin probably is in the high dollar range and it is in nice condition.
I spent a little time trying. Not sure I can do it from a photo....though I will spend more time later if I can.
Now having seen better pics, I think the T/I alignment is +3 and not +2. So O-117 is not an option anymore. As there are 13 different varieties for +3 and I don’t have my books with me, I’ll stop here...
I went through all the +3 and feel I have ruled them all out. If I am overlooking something I hope someone else is able to confirm either.
