IMG_0989.PNG This was cut out of a package and stolen during shipping. The Post Office was useless in trying to help, and the seller and I have already come to a mutual agreement with how to proceed. i checked NGC website for a place to report stolen slabs, but didn't see anything. What a bummer of a day.

Can't say I've seen her, but I'm certainly sorry to hear of your misfortune.

It's been some time since I've visited the below site and I forget the specifics, but considering your post it may be worth checking out....

That's messed up! You buy a coin and the post man turns out to be a rip off! Unfortunately it's nothing new and it should be reported to the above link. That link has connections and sends out bulletins to various coin shops and maybe even all of them. I'm not sure how Doug works but it says right on his website. At this point, you have nothing to lose. good luck!

If it was a postal employee, 50-50 says they make more money than you. It’s almost guaranteed his health and retirement benefits eclipse yours.

Someone had to sign for it, right? Who accepted an open/damaged shipment?

He did say it had been "cut out", so perhaps he simply hadn't noticed until after? I've signed for packages I didn't realized were damaged until after.

Nobody signed anything, the mailman put it in my mailbox with a label that says damaged package missing contents.

    Thanks for clarifying.

Do you have photos of the package?

I was really bummed, not so much about the money, 65 bucks or so, but the loss of the coin. I dont usually buy Morgans, as I have a bunch and my interests have moved elsewhere. This was just one of those coins that grabbed my eye and I had to have. I filed a report on the site you linked me to, and I'll look into NGC customer service tomorrow. I imagine this coin ending up in a pawn shop owner's hand for 20 bucks or so.

Is that postal service plastic bag really clear taped closed? I was told after going through a similar experience they are supposed to be completely heat sealed by the post office to show that the item was in fact received by them predamaged or empty and if not in that condition the P.O. will not pay out on insurance claims.

Yep. They stole my coin as far as I'm concerned. The seller is a good dude, I feel bad, because he'll make it good and get screwed himself.

Wow that is messed up on several levels. Obviously the coin being stolen, but also that USPS goes to such great lengths to seal and deliver what they know is an empty mailer.
At the very least the coin should be easy enough to identify even out of the slab if it shows up. This time-stamped thread and the pictures are proof :)

I know it easier to just put the slabbed coin into a mailer like that and be done with it. A knowledgeable thief can feel the slab thru the mailer and the deed is done. I would always put the slabbed coin into a small box and ship it that way. The postal cost is exactly same as using the mailer.

Sorry about this @Nathan401. I think one of the best possibilities for finding your coin is the link posted by @fretboard. Best of luck!

To me, this looks like one of the sorting machines ate the package. It looks to be torn in more than one spot.
