ILLEGAL TO EXPORT

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by willard t frye, Apr 24, 2018.

  1. the United States Mint introduced new interim rules on December 14, 2006, that criminalized the melting and export of pennies (which as of 2013 cost 1.83 cents to produce) and nickels. Violators of these rules can be punished with a fine of up to $10,000, five years imprisonment, or both. The rules were finalized on April 17, 2007.[112][109] The melt value of a nickel for some time was more than five cents, including nearing over one-and-a-half

WHAT A "BUMMER".... HOW MANY OF YOU SELL PENNIES OR NICKELS OVERSEAS?

I think it's a dumb rule under current conditions. Heck, I'd argue for a government subsidy to anybody willing to get Zincolns out of the country.

But, really, how much demand is there from outside the US for bulk US nickels and cents? The limit is $25 face value for "numismatic purposes"; that's quite a lot of nickels, and even more cents...

How many of you are willing to admit to committing a felony on a public forum?

Again, it's allowed in amounts under a certain threshold.
