Ohh and I'm really just curious (no mal intent here at all), what part of small retail were you in?

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

One hour photo / camera shop. Nikon, Canon, Leica, Hasselblad dealer. DIRECT Kodak and Fuji dealer, no distributors in between. I wrote my checks to the manufacturers directly.

When the presidential dollars came out I was getting rolls of them just to spend. My friends, family, neighbors, and local stores loved them here in NJ. Walmart and the River Line train were the only 2 sources that gave them out as change. The mint has been acting very stingy. Bank managers were telling me I had to order $1K at a time. So I gave up my crusade to supply my community. The demand is still there.

Well here in South Florida. The demand is very low like I said most of the retailers do not like them, or half dollars.
My bank is the same way. They can get me a boxes circulated presidential dollars.
And as you say that's $1000 a box.

And it takes twice as long to inspect them.
And most likely if I go back to the bank and ask for another box, I would almost bet 75% of them will be the ones that I have already examined.
Down here I'm not quite sure where they still use the dollars, I've heard at the Metro rail station.

Now if you ever get to Seattle it's a must to take the ferry over to the Peninsula.
One of Seattle's Fairy system trademarks is giving change in two dollar bills.
I've managed to get a few of them with sequential numbers.

When's the last time you got a two dollar bill in change?.

When I roll my coins, I mark the roll that it has been examined. My bank knows the mark and examines the 'new' rolls it gives me to make sure they are not giving back the ones already examined. It's a small bank and they help me out, but getting back the same coins can be happen easily. Being small, they are also limited on what they get.

I know what you mean. I have two banks that i work with. One I drop off at.
And the one over near my house I pick up coins at
yeah I may have to drive a little further to drop off a box in a different branch.
I know those coins will be given out in that particular area for customers and merchants.
I guess mark in the rolls is a good idea. If you're depositing the coins back at the same bank that you picked them up at.

I took one of my box circulated quarters, and just to see how many of those quarters I was getting back, I took a red permanent marker and just drew a line through the coin.

So the next box of quarters I picked up I was always looking for the red marks.
You know surprisingly I have not come across any of those quarters in over a few months.

It's really not surprising, since Dade And Broward County has over 5 million people.
    That's a lie of businesses.
There is two major distributor of rolls coins here in South Florida is Brinks and Loomis.

So when the vendors turned their excess coinage into the bank in return the bank sends unrolled coinage back to Brinks or Loomis to be rolled.

Hate to tell you this but you may have to do a little driving to different banks to get a good selection.
Little change in scenery is always good for the soul.
