I know that it's elementary to a lot of you guys but to finally complete this raw set including proofs, after many years, is a little rewarding. Now to put them all in a album to tone.
Not at all. Fun set. I hope you will think more about putting it in an album. The proofs won't do well. I won't even put an MS coin in an album any longer.
@ldhair I have debated this with myself for a while now. I see a lot of coins with what appears to be a powdery mildew look on the surface. That I don't want. But then I wonder if those are what they may look like in the beginning stages. I put all my proof quarters in an album (A really cheap one, not a Dansco) and they have toned really well. Kinda pushed me towards the decision.
Congratulations! That's not elementary in the least, it's a harder set than most would think, especially with the early proofs.
No doubt, the most expensive, but most are way overpriced. One of the reasons I kinda drug my feet on finishing the set. A lot of speculators trying to buy up available coins to corner the market, so to speak.
I couldn't tell you how long it takes. I posted some quarters here https://www.cointalk.com/threads/just-another-s-toned-question.302537/ that have been toning for a couple years. Not all are toning but most are to some degree. As for the varieties, I only have the Bugs Bunny posted here https://www.cointalk.com/threads/what-grade-would-you-give-this.275999/#post-2370917 and only want one other, the '61 proof ddr, and will never give up the hunt to cherry pick it.
Congratulations, that's a nice set to do. I'd certainly, at a minimum, put my business strike Franklins in an album to tone.
I can't imagine the work that goes into completing a complete set of anything, much less a long-ish series such as the Franklins. A fairly underrated coin featuring a founding figure that I hope we don't forget.
Of all the figures presented on US coins, he is without a doubt, the most intriguing and inspiring individual.
Never get tired of hearing someone completing a whole set. Good for you. What i get tired of is people getting boxes and boxes of half dollars just for the silver halfs. I understand it not to be collecting. It's hoarding. I hope I'm wrong
Good work! And now the best thing about it is.......you can start a new collection of some other sort of coins which strike your fancy.
