Hello everyone, my first time posting here and also I am new at coin collecting. I found this penny in my closet that is a 1968 D penny and the "8" of the year looks like it is a B. Anything special?

Something hit it. The machine that counts them, the machine that rolls them, who knows? I know it looks like it was made that way but it wasn't, something hit it and pushed it over like that.

Welcome to Coin Talk, Joe. I think your coin has a "Die Chip". It is hard to tell from photos some times. Lighting really make a big differance. It looks like the curve of the "8" is still on the left side, and the metal is sitting on top of the "8". There is also a line on the right side of the raised metal where it meets the surface of the "8". If you can post photos with diferent light angles it may help.

    Not a die chip, imo.

It's been 'hit' on the left side if the digit.
    Damaged......
