Anyone can grade an UNC note but what happens in the in between gradings???
You do not need PCGS for that!!!
That is where the troubles lie between seller and customer. A collector has to read and memorize the grading features in the pic and once that is done, it goes for nearly all other countries in the world.....
okay mpcusa, tell me how to grade and price as follows:
    Fine
    Fine +
    Nice Fine
    Good Fine
    a/VF
    Very Fine

As you see you have 2 gradings, fine and VF. You know as well as i know that a true VF will show wear but will have body still in the paper.... Fine on the other hand may have a small tear and a heavy crease in the center but still will be collectible condition.....Where do the other 5 gradings fall into play??

Anyone ? why don,t you take a shot at this one ? i think your all wet with your assumption,s though grading is not an exact science, there are ways to give your
self a better chance especially when your a buyer as well as a seller.

Not sure where you came up with your "exotic grading scale" there are numbers
Attached to fine grades (Nice Fine, Good Fine) SERIOUSLY !!....LOL

This contest is for graded notes only so your "Scale" does not apply here after
25 Years of collecting and grading notes i have never heard of your terminology

    PCGS scale as follows:

    Superb Grades 70,69,68,67
    Gem New 66,65
    Very Choice new 64
    Choice New 63
    New 62,61,60

    Choice About New 58,55
    About New 53,50

    Extremely Fine 45,40

    Very Fine 35,30,25

    Fine 15,12

There is no designation for nice fine or good fine only numbers.

I do invite you to play and hope you will join us :)

I know there is no designation for the grades in between in USA but as i am from Australia, we use those mid gradings.....it is simply that if a buyer says it is just under fine ot over VF, we havr the a - + g/ included.....

I have had a rule with coins and banknotes that are not proof and not specimen....
No banknote can be UNC as at sometime, someone has had to handle it.... Remember they come in bundles of 100 with the reserve mint paper tag. not everyone in a bank wears gloves. Once a person has handled it, it has the label of pre loved because the oils of ones skin has gone onto the note...and the grading has dipped to almost Unc. I have gone by that all my 50 years of buying and selling and have not gone very wrong.. As well as it is good for the buyer, it is great for me as the seller as buyers can see i am not overgrading....The highest grade of a banknote in my eyes is a/UNC as it has someones fingerprints and can be forensically taken off if need be...Yes i do watch NCIS as i love paulley perette....lol .....I know it is going a bit far and i know you will think what a load of bull but remember it is better to be a bit under with the gradings than over....I prefer to lose $25 on a deal and sell the item than hold onto it forever and collect dust. Remember the key in this hobby is turnover to buy something else and earn on that also...

I have heard of your red coin book but i have no idea on where to get one....We in australia use the mcdonalds catalogue and it gives the grades...no numbers as you will see with the scan i have included... As we have simply VG - F -VF - EF - a/Unc & UNC , we have no idea on numbers...OIO

Sorry, if i was a little hard on you there but i had no idea you were from a
Different country so no worries :)

What you are describing there is what we call a "tweener note" for example
A note that,s better then VF35 but cant make it to the next level EF40
And there is no middle ground the designation is only 5 points however
There is a big difference between VF grades and EF grades from a financial
    Point of you.

The books are ok, but they become obsolete very quickly i recommend the monthly
Green Sheet (for paper money) and the grey sheet for coins, there usually your
best resource but they do have limitations and only offer prices on the most
    popular issues.

It is ok that you ask for me to participate but i have already lost before i look at an item because you do not grade like i do. In australia we are far mere pedantic and stricter with gradings....I am going to add in here the methods in which we grade coins or notes and your eyes will pop out. We do not use this PGS as out strictness is way beyind any normal dealers or collectors...I have been in this industry since i was 17 and now am 60...it is hard to change after almost half a century doing one way..

It is like asking your grandparents to name all the possibly ways of html codes...
They certainly wont be able to do it

You say the books become obsolete very quickly but do you really think a collector will pay the up to date price or would rather pay a slightly older and cheaper price...I am still wotking of a 2000 Krauss Catalogue and a 2010 Australian Banknote and coin catalogue...Going by what you say they are obsolete and i am finding it hard to sell at those old prices. My thoughts is that no new blood is coming into the hobby and that is where it is falling down so it would not matter what price we all use....OIO
