Picked up this lot. Originally, I thought I was buying 50 coins at $6, but it was a typo and there are only 22, so $13 each. I decided to keep them (the dealer of course offered a refund + return shipping). Should be fun!
Looks like a great group of coins especially for the price. Mostly Imperial with a couple of interesting Hadrians and what appears to be a nice Otacilia.
Even at $13 a coin you made out like a bandit. You could probably sell most of those coins in eBay at $25 to $35 all day long. You'd definitely get your money back and then some. The dealer just didn't want to be bothered listing coins with such low prices individually, so you got a bargain due to that. I'd personally be happy if I got the deal you got.
Looks like a fun and varied lot for a steal of a deal. They should be very satisfying to attribute and catalog. I buy lots like that just for the sense of discovery while looking them up. John
WOw, super-impressed with the haul. You got some very nice coins at a nominal price. Not your usual LRB grab bag of FTR and Gloria Exercitus types. Who is the dealer? Wait, I'm sure you wouldn't want to share that!
I used to buy large lots all the time, then I came down with a serious MFB addiction. Now that I've acquired a gold MFB that addiction is less severe, so I'm playing the field a little more I forgot how fun mixed lots were.
Got this from Forvm. He's had a lot of new consignments recently, definitely worth checking out. Some decent large lots too, thought I think I got the best one.

Nice group! I like the look of the Hadrians. They really do tend to wear well. Sometimes I wish those new to ancients wanting to buy uncleaned lots would consider mixed group lots instead. The coins are likely to be better (or even much better) and more varied, and there's plenty of fun and learning to be had in researching the types and chasing down attributions. On second thoughts, leave all the mixed lots to me! Seriously, mixed lots don't even have to be big ones. Yesterday, I was looking for some coins to photograph and came across this nice big (AE28) provincial of Elagabalus that I had no recollection of buying. It came from a 5-coin mixed lot from a couple of years ago that cost me just $11.50 per coin.

I really like buying coins in big lots like this. The "cost per unit" price can be astonishingly low, making it much easier for me to justify the outlay for the whole lot. Your batch here Nicholas is marvelous - I'd be thrilled to pay what you did for it. Enjoy! Although not ancient (my apologies for the irrelevance to this forum!), here is a lot I recently picked up for $10 on eBay. I really wanted that Papal States 4 pistole d Italie weight (16th-17th C. from what I can find online). The 2 Hesse Cassel 1/24th thalers and Louis XVI pre-decapitation aren't too bad either . That aluminum thing is a Gute Fur Ein Bier token... A little bit of everything. It was a lot of fun tracking down what was what, and overall a pretty good bang for the buck.
