I'll need to find out which character represents a "7"on that coin to appreciate the observation @mrbreeze made!
On the side with the writing, there are five characters across the middle. The first two are 1&6. The 4th and 5th characters are 2&7. If you look at the 7, it is shifted down somewhat and there is another character that is even with the 2. I hope that helps.
Here is one for you. Minted in a country for use on a group of islands that were the territory of another country. There was a thread started about these issues within the last few months.
Spitsbergen Island is what it says in Russian. A territory of Norway though Russia has leased coal mines on the island since the 1920s.
Yes. These were produced for the Russian mining company Arktikugol. Minted in Leningrad. From Krause... Spitzbergen (Svalbard), a Norwegian territory, is a group of mountainous islands in the Arctic Ocean 360 miles (579 km.) north of Norway. In 1932, the Russian mining company Arktikugol began operations in the islands. More here... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/in-the-middle-of-designing-a-digital-coin-album-spitsbergen.295658/
You're tough @Muzyck! We only get one side of the coin? I like to think about the design a while before I go searching those words on the coin. The style reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it. On Hepejeh, huh? I am not sure why, but I'm thinking ... Mongolia? Around there?
Well, Mongolia is so very, very close you just about have it. (I didn't mean to hijack your thread, I just love collecting coins from these obscure locations)
Wow...I'm "near" with my Mongolia guess? But I think I'll wait a bit and see if someone else gets it right. Of course I hoped people would put up their coins. And I like the idea of showing only one side. Makes it more challenging. I was thinking there could be a "beginner edition" showing two sides and a more challenging version for more experienced collectors showing one side or even a portion of a side.
Malawi Florin! Wow. I was thinking Dutch and I remembered there were Florin in Aruba. But I don't remember them having elephants on them. I am constantly learning on this site!
No... From Wiki... .....Although formally a sovereign, independent nation from 1921 to 1944, it was considered a satellite state of The Soviet Union. The Soviet Union and the Mongolian Peoples Republic were the only countries to recognize its independence. It joined the Soviet Union in 1944.
