Have the coin below. Believe it is Die F-353. Has cannon and drums but no wreath. Trying to locate information on this coin, especially if it is worth anything and the estimated value.
@Insider there are at least three different Military Trophies w/ cannons designs. http://www.cwtoken.com/Civil_War_Token_Type_Set/Patriotics/Pages/MT_-_Military_Trophies.html
Never saw one like this before with no tassels on the poles, chewed up fields, etc. Until now! I'll bet it is rarer than R-3. Who do I send the $1 to?
This Die is listed as Fuld#353. It was made with only one reverse, Die#396. The Die Sinker was Leightweis. It was made in both copper and brass. Rarity is R-2 and R-4 respectively. It is listed in Fuld's book of Patriotic Tokens.
The following is from the Fuld Patriotic Tokens book, Fifth Edition... There are at least six known dies that used the Flags/Drums/Cannons motif. Dies 350, 351, 352, 352A, 352B, and 353. See page 80. Die 353 is known to have been paired with Die 16 and Die 18 only. See page 156 in Fuld. These Die pairings are confirmed in the Bowers book "AGuide Book of Civil War Tokens", see page 105. Not sure where the conflicting info posted above comes from but it would be useful to this discussion to have those sources referenced.
That's as funny as this helpful post of yours: "Horse urine." I sincerely hope you learn as much on this thread as I did from my obvious error. I'll claim too tired and lazy late at night to read much past the first sentence or to go into my Library to get Fuld and research a design I've never seen. What's your excuse?
@heavycam.monstervam Now this is a much better response from a member I consider an equal! I accept the pile on, I can take it, and I deserve it as I am usually the first to jump on misinformation and ignorance around here. Better get it all out because I'm .
Well the thing here is that those who have to comment on every post they read are bound to make a mistake at some point. Sorry you didn't think horse urine was funny.
Let's see, "stinkin' and horse urine." That positively confirms what I heard in a line from "An Officer and a Gentleman." Curious, do they have any steers up there in that beautiful state?
"Horse Urine" was very funny and actually a very good guess because believe it or not, urine has been used on coins! As to my ignorant post. Thankfully a member corrected it (in a very nice way) immediately so it could not do much harm!
When I was growing up on the farm my grandfather raised a steer for his friend. We had beautiful pastures and the steer was fenced in. Grandfather warned us not to get close to the fence. Of course we boys teased it and waved a red shirt to see what it would do.
Then there are steer's in CT. I figured as much. Probably some in every state. What did it do when you waved the shirt?
