I recently took on a large consignment that included a few ancient coins. Most were attributed, or graded, but this pendant was included and I have no reference material to look it up. I would appreciate any info members here can give me. This is not intended as spam. I just don't want to list something for sale that is not authentic. Thanks
I believe it is. Yours is one similar to this https://www.cointalk.com/threads/de...t-biblical-coin-of-sorts.288043/#post-2595603
Perhaps it's just the picture but the top of the head on the obverse where the prong (?) comes down from the top looks off. Was that altered so it could fit the pendent or was it made like that. Hard to tell from the photos. The rest of it looks fine as far as I can tell which leads me to lean toward genuine IMHO.
Never seen the type but definately cool. It looks like the coin was altered some to fit the pendant, as Curtisimo stated.
Agree. Do not even consider removing the coin. It would be a damaged item and looks as good now as it ever will.
Its genuine. Its a drachm of Demetrios I, 162 - 150 BC, a Seleucid King in Syria. Its certainly been damaged by the pendant so I would not remove it. It is worth more as jewelry than as an ancient coin.
