Agreed! Unfortunately, I cannot add anything else other than to say it certainly looks as if it could have an interesting story attached.

    OP,

Looks like you did a good job with the posting. :)

Very interresting indeed. Augusta is the capitol of Maine. Canton is a town about 20 miles west of Augasta. My first guess is a campain button of sorts. Maybe I.O.O.F or somthing simular. Still searching.

I have searched high and low for 2 weeks and found nothing. It does look like it's a button but it has no pin on the back and no where one looked to be attached. I am sure it does have a story, hope I find it. Thank you all!

I'm going to take a wild guess at some sort of a tribute button for the USS Augusta (CA-31). Don't know who Drummy or Bill is but the ship has spent time in Portland in 1945. In Wikipedia there are a lot of coincidences with that ship and the information on the button. I didn't read everything because its is long but what I did makes me wonder. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Augusta_(CA-31)
On the back there is some information that is not clear in the pictures. It looks like the manufactures name and a Patent number. I would do a patent search or search for the manufacture if you already haven't.
    Hope this helps, good luck!
