The melt value of this coin is about $7.16. I would not spend it.

Yes they do but just to keep you from the hassle of arguing with the clerk at McDonalds wondering if they are fake I will send you some folding money to replace it. Looks like 18 stacked up there so I will round it up to an even $20.

I guess "Spenders/Keepers" is a cute little way of putting it. I prefer "Keepers" or "Trade." Get rid of the coin with a hole. Find something you like an give them your coin + cash. Otherwise, if you are really lucky, you can find some poor soul collector who wants/can only afford damaged coins and sell it to him. Collectors like that keep the market for damaged coins way over melt!

With the world economy as it is, I should not get riid of any silver or gold that is not damaged.

If by spend you mean trade up and use it as part of the deal for a better one, I'd go with that. If you mean to spend it, I have $1.00 in my pocket with your name on it :p

Yeah I meant sell/trade, spenders seems to be more of a paper currency term which I have some of as well. I'll keep this one though I think.

I struggle to part with any coin I own. That's why I like to trade coins. They go to someone else who needs it and it gets replaced with something I need. I don't have to stress about all the terrible purchases I've made over the years and instead get to be happy with a new coin I didn't have :)

At the moment, I have sneaked away from the pool (If I no longer appear on CT you'll know that Bigmoney killed me for getting the rug wet) to look for new posts and found this:

Someone once said about advice: "Wise men don't need it and fools don't heed it." I'll add to that: "Bigger fools give it!" so delete this after you read it...:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I struggle to part with any coin I own. Don't we all? That's why I like to trade coins. They go to someone else who needs it and it gets replaced with something I need. That's a great way to build a collection. I don't have to stress about all the terrible purchases I've made (probably we've all made) over the years and instead get to be happy with a new coin I didn't have :) So why not scratch that itch. I cannot tell another collector what to buy; however, it is best to pass on coins with any problems and save money for something nice. Most of us buy a coin, then trade up, then trade up until we finally get something really nice. Doing this common stunt makes everyone rich except ourselves. I learned to try a different approach while waiting for that nice coin. As long as the money stayed in my pocket, I could buy ANYTHING in that price range ANY TIME I WISHED. As I added more money to my unspent stash, the number of coins I could buy increased. It was fun to go to a show looking for the coin I really wanted while in my mind knowing - I can buy that, I can buy that, that one too, etc.

Great advice and I agree that the trading up thing rarely goes in the favor of the buyer (at least not for me and my limited expertise). I keep a pretty tight monthly coin budget ($50/month) so I end up saving for quite a few months before I buy a coin for my US Type Set. I've yet to go to a dealer's shop and find a coin that I wanted because it took so long to save the money up, I wasn't willing to part with it for anything that didn't stand out to me. I get pretty antsy from time to time but the wait is worth it. My Type Set is going to be a lifelong project and hopefully I'll get to increase my coin budget over time to help chase those older coins. I have a lot of coins in my collection that I don't need but couldn't get the money out of them if I squeezed them in a vice. I'll figure out what to do with them eventually.

The best coins I ever bought were overpriced at the time but exceptional. The best coins are the ones every dealer asks to see but are not willing to pay the price.

The most expensive coins I ever bought were from a dealer I regularly did business with. He put them aside (one at a time) on layaway. I was able to form a CSA die break and Scott Token set in unc that way.

    Interesting coin.

I wonder if it was part of a keychain.
