Picked up a nice check the other day at a great price -- it's on the account of Robbins, Burrall & Co. of Lakeville, CT. Printed by American Bank Note. I was most interested in the vignette of the deer, which I discovered was engraved by James David Smillie. Upon close inspection I found he had actually engraved his initials JDS in the lower left, along with what looks like "Oct 61". Smillie was a member of a very prolific family of engravers and his work appears on the $500 National Gold Bank Note.
Can't believe I found this 2 year old thread, but while I'm here: This for TigerTrader These just because they are quite artistic: One more because it's a RADAR check and a LADDER dollar amount: Enough for now. Ya'll don't be bashful.
A few checks for you with same left side vignette 1. Printed by Major,Knapp Eng, Mfg & Litho 449 Broadway NY 1866 RADAR number 2. Printed by Corties,Macy & Co. Stationers NY 1869 ("almost" RADAR) 3. Printed by Major & Knapp Eng. Mfg & Litho 56 Park Place NY 1879
Another nice one that fits with my collecting of checks with the December 7th date plus it has nice engraving at the left; pus it is a radar number!
Always do a "happy dance" when I find another check that fits into what I've already put in the collection: love the history of these three checks February 1928: July 1928 change to artwork November 1938 7,047 checks later My acquisition of these three spans almost ten years; and I didn't even know they existed, just sort of found them along life's highway.
Here's a plain and simple counter check from a relatively small bank from a relatively small town ( population 813 in 2013 ) but what a big story depicted by the picture in the upper left.
I have checks from many bank notes I own. To list them would be very laborious so I'll just say it is pleasant to own them. It kind of ties the package altogether that way. It may even increase the value of both.
Neat checks, well done. Can you tell me the printer for this check, I couldn't expand it enough to read. Thanks and thanks for the post.
