Will this coin go down as the most significant coin of the century? In a hundred years will this be a must have classic commem?

Since there are still about 86 years we haven't seen yet in this century, the law of probability would lean toward "no".

I can say with some certainty, though, the U. S. Mint Tote Bag will go down as 1 of the most idiotic promotions of the century.

No. It's interesting, but IMO, it's not a coin. I did buy one silver proof, but I don't consider it a coin.

We can't say for certain but this is certainly the best design I have seen in the modern era that is great and original. Perhaps if more creativity occurs at the Mint there will be better coins. If not this one will be top of the list.

I've been toyin' with the idea of breakin' out one of the clads and throwing it in with the pocket change. Loves facinating the inquisitive cashier.......:)

What do you consider to be the "modern era"?

The reverse is, for obvious reasons, kind of neat, but overall I find it to be far from spectacular.

I used that as more of a broad statement to say that they US Mint has not had any good original designs since the end of the buffalo nickel series. Sure they change the reverse every couple decades but it is not much.

This idea of a curved coin might come back to haunt the us mint. Soon all of the nations coinstar machines will be jammed by these coins

Cool coin, but nothing original about a baseball & glove. If it remains the only curved coin, it may remain popular.

I don't think so and IMO, it'll never be a "Must Have" anymore than a Silver Proof Kennedy will be.

There are still 86 years to tell on that as well...

It's impossible to know for sure. Some of the strangest things have become big collectibles. I have a hard time viewing these HOF "coins" as coins. To me it feels more like a novelty item. That's irrelevant though as far as future value.

  21. Even though it is way too early to tell, the fact that this is the first curved coin issued by the US Mint gives it the potential of being a "must have" coin. It is also a very cool design and appeals to two collector markets and possibly the general public.
