    Yes, it is indeed a shield nickel. Unfortunately, not worth much if any more than face value.

    I figured that...I think ill keep it...after all it is my very first Shield nickel. I feel like a 3 year old walking around with a shiny penny...

    it's seen its fair share of circulation. i have never seen 1 that worn. great conversation piece.

    Where did you get it? My step-father dug one up in our yard in KY one time. I think it was in worse shape.

    use some lite, LITE acidic vinegar to bring out more of the design. do not add salt! see what happens when you use salt here:http://www.cointalk.com/t221469/

    less than a typical POOR-1, would it get a bean?

    For that poor thing (as in Poor-1 ;)) to get slabbed, you'd still need to have a readable date, or at least a discernable date. It doesn't look like it even has that.

    Shield nickels, even at much higher grades, are notorious for corrosion. This one looks like it might be problem-free, just honest wear. A ton of honest wear. :)
