    4 boxes of halfs:
    Box1: 1 90%er
    Box 2: 1 90%er
    Box 3: 1 90%er, 5 40%ers
    Box 4: 2 90%34s (1 Frankie), 4 40%ers

    So the total is 5 90%ers 9 40%ers

How do you tell if they are nmfc? I am new to this. And the learning curve is steep. I have ordered some books recommended elsewhere. My first box of halves will be coming in next week!

2000 was the last year the Denver mint made circulation halves, anything later is an nmfc ( not meant for circulation ), Philly made circulation halves thrue 2001 so anything later is an nmfc btw welcome

There are really only a few people on this forum who seem to get lucky with monster boxes on a consistent basis, everyone else (myself included) is more or less like you, which means lots of long dry spells with occasional nice finds. In a place here like NJ there's already a ton of competition locally, and you're getting coins from the big cities that surround the state, which themselves have a lot of searchers.

There's really not a lot you can do besides keep at it. You may just live in an area where 1-2 40%ers per box is a "good box", sadly. Just gotta keep hoping you get lucky some day, it can get really frustrating but when you luck out it's a great feeling.

39 D yes 3 50D in rolls and later I purchased a partial roll of 50D. I have searched more than 18,000 rolls (3300 nickel rolls) and not one "brick." But right now I have three "bricks" of nickels I feel are worthy of saving. I have five rolls of war nickels I found from searched bank rolls.

I go into a bank and ask for 5 rolls of Jefferson nickels. I always inspect the rolls for short rolls and I see written on the shotgun rolls 1964 Prior, 1950 Prior on all the rolls and asked the teller if there were more and there were 8 more rolls which I promptly bought. Most were AU. I was tickled pink. :)

I wonder what usually happens with a "brick" that has been searched. Do you return it to the bank for another "brick"? That brick could find its way to KOIN more often than statistically average.

Are these bricks all made up of String & Sons rolls? Or are they all different kinds of wrappers? Any ever have "1950 Prior" or other writing on them? Just wondering.

    Today's meager results:
    $10 Nickles: 1955D
    $20 Dimes: Skunk
    $120 Quarters: Skunk.
    They didn't have any halfs.

Bag of dimes gave up three roosies.

That'll be my last search for a week or so while I'm out of town. If I get time in between my meetings I may hit up a few banks looking for loose half dollars though.

On a positive note, I have a new bank holding all of their half dollar coins as well as 'any unusual coin or currency' for me. Hopefully that'll pay off with more than clad halves and $2 bills!

I disagree. Both mints made halves intended for circulation in 2001. About 21.2 million in Philly and about 19.5 million in Denver. In 2002 both mints only made halves not intended for circulation. 3.1 million in Philly and 2.5 million in Denver.

To elaborate on this, 2002 and later (and 1970 and 1987) are NIFC - Not INTENDED for Circulation. I suppose it's not a technical term, but... that's how I've always seen them referred to. Never as NMFC.
