    Hello,

I was watching 2 1873 Double Liberty, Indian Head Cents.

    One was sold:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/13061594769...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

The other one was taken off by the seller:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/22091312410...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

I emailed the seller of the one he took off and said that lets negotiate a good price.

He said that its worth $645 in the price guide, but look an MS-61 sold for $585
What should I offer him I am not willing to pay higher than what the ms coin was sold for.

    Thanks

    Dan

depends on how bad you want the coin. offer what you are willing to pay. price for a coin varies on the coin collector.

They are 2 different DDO, one being an S-2 ( which is valued at less), but sold, and the other being a presumed S-1. The one you are asking about, ( doesn't indicate on the holder, but was usually considered to be a S-1 when awarded the "double liberty" tag) and which prices out many times more than the S-2. VG-8 is a decent level for a variety collector whgo just wants to have one, but it will be hard to see, and non-variety collectors would probably think it too low of a grade. Mine is a VG-8 also :)

My advice is to look at the last completed auction. Try to convince him that ebay will take a fee out of the final price, so offer him a little less than the last auction. If he doesn't go for it its really up to you. If you wan't it really bad offer the finished price as an offer. If not you can always wait for another one.
One thing I learned when it comes to collecting is that there are always more out there. Sometimes you just have to wait.

I suspect he is correct on the value of the S-1 vg IHC. Since you are doing it outside of eBay and their safety net will not be there, you need to cover all eventualities in case of postal loss, payment, etc.

the 2 coins you mention though are like sugar cookie compared to macadamia chocolate chip cookie. They are both cookies, but one much richer than the other, so the price of one should not determine the price of the other.

The PCGS price guide for the second coin lists the value at $875, he thinks it's worth $645, so offer him $575 to start with.

If the dealer/seller gives you a price to start off with, try to give him a low number where it eventually meets in the middle that you're willing to pay. ;)

All good advice. A coin is only worth it to you what you will pay. I would offer a little under what he wants, if you wish to pay that. If he doesn't take it, like Icerain says, there is ALWAYS another coin. The longer you are in the hobby, the more true this statement is.
