What have you found old coins in? I found this old box with mostly tax receipts from 1917 onward. And some coins. Is this an old safe deposit box from that era?
Late teens and '20's. They came in all different sizes sometimes even with a slot of the top to be used as a bank. You can find them in the old catalogs of the period.
Thank you IKDiggit. I'm finding boxes while "down~sizing" Dad's place. Boxes with V nickels, IHC's, lots of old paperwork and one Half Eagle. And the boxes are pretty neat, too.
Have a very similar box as yours that I found when purchased a few boxes of stuff (old tubes, books, stamps, etc) from a coin shop a few years ago. Also found a whole roll of circ. merc dimes in one of the tubes as well as a couple other silver coins stuck in the bottom of other tubes.
Those boxes are awesome rufus! I am a huge fane of old wooden boxes like that. I can't say why, I just like them.
