Coin is genuine. I would buy it I love the patina. Looks like PVC damage on the reverse of the eagle breast.
This coin is a very good prospect for NCS, and worth every bit of the cost's for their service . As I mentioned in your other thread, my suggestion is not to be hasty for a sale, unless you absolutely need money for an emergency situation.
Hey . . .thanks for all your help coinmann. I have no emergency. . .howeever over the years I hve watched coin collections be snapped up from estates for a song. I'm up in years . . .don't want to see something like that happen in my case. For that reasosn. . .I would like to sell my whole collection. I also have an 1875 Trade CC Dollar in better condition (MS-60). Am I correct in assuming that NCS stands for National Coin Service? Would you recommend NCS over PCGS? Would you take a shot at grading the 1878 Trade CC I submitted above? Thanks again!
NCS is a conservation service which I feel this coin could benefit from, and perhaps enhance the coins overall appearance potentially increasing it's market value. Genuine CC Trade Dollars aren't that easily found and I feel would benefit greatly to that end. Others may want to offer up an opinion . Nice Coin, good luck and let us know if you need any other assistance. There's more than a few good folks here.
I agree Coinman. If you're gonna clean, conserve, or otherwise try to improve the appearance of a potentially high value coin, you're better off letting the pro's do it.
This is one I would like to be able to compare before and after photos, after a trip to NCS. Simply by the low mintage, makes this TD " Scarce " and cleaned examples are very much welcomed amongst collectors.
Hey CoinMan . . .I appreciate your input! I subscibed to NGC & NCS today. . .and I'm printing the submition form to have the coin cleaned . . .I'd be happy to post the 'recovered' coin when I get it back. Is there a special container you would recomend for the shipping as well as the method of shipping? Thanks!
Keep in mind, if the coin has been previously cleaned, the best grade possible from NCS will be "Uncirculated Details-cleaned". That's what I did and what happened to my "avatar" coin. Afterward, I sent it to ANACS for a numerical grade and they labeled it MS60-cleaned. Now everyone thinks it was the ORIGINAL cleaning that makes it look this way. It has a luster and sheen to it that draws too much attention.
I would leave it in a "flip" and ship that way via priority mail or according to their requirements. I think your making a wise decision to send it to NCS. Those guys know their business .
Is the 1875 CC Trade Dollar certified? If so, I may have some interest in the coin. Do you have any pictures?
I think he was speaking to me. LOL No his TD is not certified, that is what we were discussing having done.
This site would really get confusing if a Hobo007 and a USMoneylover043 and a Krispy0123 show up! :too-funny:
