Thanks Troodon, I'll coopt the phrase and try not to start any trouble. The first problem I have with toning is that it's so easy to fake. Next is I find plenty of clad in change that's toned. How they became toned I have no idea. I My opinion is it's way over rated. Yes, to each his own. If someone chooses to collect / buy toned coins be my guest. It just rankles me when I see slabbed or raw pieces, I just don't believe they deserve a premium. Good analogy concerning the movies. I'll go a step further and think of P. T. Barnum. Good to hear from you.

      Hi Troodon,

I wholeheartedly agree with your siggy. It's a breath of fresh air to see it. Do you mind if I paraphrase the toning comment and use it for my own?

"" Boycott ALL TPGs! Spend your money on coins, not worthless plastic.

"Toning" is just a euphamism for tarnish or corrosion. In a sane world, such a defect would lower a coin's value!""

Coin collecting is my hobby, not my investment; I don't care what my coins will be worth in the future because I don't ever intend to sell them if I can help it!

As far as I'm concerned, "toning" is just a euphemism for corrosion.
