1895 Switzerland gold 20 Francs, mintage of 200,00 (high for this type), edge lettering of DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT (the Lord will provide), of course I'd have to crack it out of the NGC holder to read it clearly....
So I am not new to world coins but I am new to world silver coins. I went on a bit of a buying spree on ebay over the last few weeks. My only criteria were that they had to: 1) Be world coins 2) Be silver 3) Be at or below melt This is what I have received in the mail so far (Sorry for the crappy pictures):
I "received" 2 coins in the mail today. 1) 1966 South Africa 1 Rand - The auction said that it was a proof...I dunno. The 2nd coin was supposed to be a 1931 Great Britain 1/2 Crown. The seller sent it loose in a regular envelop and it looks like it ripped open the corner and fell out. Either way, I received no coin...grrr...
This has happened to me before too. I hate when they do that. Contact them and get your money back. I like your Iceland coin. That's one I haven't seen before. I didn't realize Iceland made silver coins.
Yeah I have already started the paypal process. Hopefully I will have my $$ back by the time I leave next week... That Iceland coin is amazing IMO! It is 0.925 silver, is 39mm in diameter, weighs 30 grams, and is 0.8921 ASW. Only 71k were minted but 15k were melted afterwards. My wife, who barely tolerates my coin collecting, even said that "Man, our coins suck." after seeing the Iceland 1000 Kronur.
Iceland issued a set of two silver coins and one gold piece in that year. In or around 874, Scandinavians (from Norway/Sweden) went there, explored the island and settled there. Of course those coins were not made for circulation; other silver commems were issued in 1986, 1994 and 2000 ... Christian
Here are my last 2 purchases for a few months. They aren't the prettiest but they couldn't be beat for the price.
