I was watching Texas Auction and bid on a fifty dollar gold piece and was i surprized I won it @ $1800 Wow have been watching them ever since value now is over $2000. When I first started collecting I got into the 2006 20 'th Ann sets and I bought ten sets (10) from a dealer That set me back $3900 times two also got a few good deals from HSN and a few from US Mint have a few ASE's from 2010,2011 &2012 and on order for future years from them . So you gotta watch what you buy and get what you want and keep it for posterity... A Lot of money but I love the hobby and I have some beautiful coins to show for it ... Reply with comments... Well, I spent $150 on two coins. So that breaks my record of $23. FYI, It was the 2012 ASE set. As I consider it, I bought the proof at $60 and the rev. Proof at $90.
Is this when gold was relatively cheap? A double eagle is a long term goal on my radar but they go for 2000 last time I looked.
I have been buying proof sets and junk/bullion silver lots for a total of about $1500 over the past 6 months or so. Most expensive purchase for a "single" item was $38 for a 1964 proof set w/ an accented hair Kennedy.
Good Job I bought three sets myself 2012 special collector's sets (sold out @ US Mint)... Very nice sets , I have one on display and the other two put away... WoW!! Scott
I spent 75.00 on a 1808/7 capped bust half about 6 months ago.. I can't afford alot as of yet. I'm only 21 lol
You are only 21 sir, knowledge is what you should be collecting most of all. Big dollar purchases can wait, so its a great time to educate yourself beforehand.
I can't remember. It was more than 35 years ago. By the way Ruben, did you see my explanation about "Cap V" & "LDS"? Chris
Yes - but I have to admit i didn't understand the Cap V explanation. This might be one of those situations were a picture is worth a thousand words.
Here are two enlargements from your Morgan. The first is the "Cap V" (laying on its side) from the back of Liberty's cap on the obverse. The second is the three times that it clashed leaving the "V" (laying on its side) on the reverse. Chris
