Nice coin! Think about all the thousands and thousands that were melted in the 1940s because they did not sell. (If I remember correctly, the original issue price for the Lafayette Dollars was $2.)
I spent $23 on this puppy: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=247083278718506&set=a.202856029807898.48015.201132819980219&type=3&theater Then I sold it for $8 because I found a better example (For $14) Yes, I don't pay much for coins.
I spent about $100 in grading fee's on a 1972 Type 2 IKE trying to get an upgrade from MS64. Finally had to settle for an MS64+ which later sold for $500+ Other than that, I don't spend much on my coins other than paying their rent for the SDB they seem to need. Oh wait, I just remembered, I bought a plane ticket to Longbeach for my 1971-S Prototype last year because he was hollering something about wanting to meet David Hall.
Seven hundred for a 1841 Seated dollar. Then another $30 to get it authenticate by INS. Shortly after that I remembered that PNG authenticated coins bought from member dealers for free if you paid at least $500 for per coin. It's not enough to be knowledgeable. You kind a have to remember the stuff.
Of course. They're from the government. They're here to help. I still have that polariod cert somewhere.
I liked it too, and definitely regret selling it for $8, but the one I upgraded it for was more of a red color to it. Though the only reason I sold it was to downgrade it. So much for a matching grade for the rest of the set.
ok i've only been collecting for about 2 weeks so I gotta ask. What's the deal with the 1913 nickel everyone's talkin about?
