TRIVIA: Another Double Struck Mexican Spanish Milled Dollar

    This one was struck in 1878 at Chihuahua and bears the initials AV which denotes the assayer for the mint was Antonio Valera who served as assayer from 1873 - 1880. In 1877 three other assayers were employed by the Chihuahua Mint and their initials were afixed to some of the coins of 1877:

    EA (Edwardo Avila)
    JM (Jacobo Mucharraz)
    GR (Guadelupe Rocha)
     
    One might think, "If any errors occurred at Chihuahua, it would happen on another's watch." but, alas. it happened under Antonio's supervision. He still remained on the job two more years.
