I believe I am in the 2nd Huey on the door gunner side. LOL I wasn't so much on pics and stuff back then.
I don't have any photos, but I would like to Honor four family members... My wife's grandfather, US Air Force B-17 Pilot during WII. Downed over Germany near the end of the war. P.O.W, then liberated. My grandfather, US Army during WWII in the Pacific theater. My father, US Army, stationed in Germany during the Cold War. My brother-in-law, US Marine Reserves, two tours in Iraq, one tour in Afghanistan, plus a handfull of other overseas missions. Thanks to all in my family that have served & to all that have served this country
I am appreciative at the chance to honor my family. First I would like to give honor to a fallen brother who gave the ultimate sacrifice. My old Team Leader "Sgt. Lawrence Carter." May you rest in peace.
I would also like to honor my late grandfather, Bob Settle (Opa). One of the kindest, honorable, most humble men I have ever had the privelege of knowing. He was the navigator on the first B-29 superfortress to head to the CBI (China Burma India) theatre during WW2. I am not sure if he made bombing runs on Japan or not. He stuck to the code of "loose lips sink ships," and never bragged about any such missions to my grandmother. It wasn't until after his death that we found all of his service medals. Although it is up in the air weather he was in the "Flying Tigers," we do know that he navigated a flight for General Shinalt.
One of my fourth cousins (Rory Hamill) got his leg blown off by an IED in Afghanistan and was the first person to receive a fully bionic leg. Here's what was posted on my grandmothers blog: Oh, and here's a picture of him
I love this post! It is so great to see so many people so proud of our troops. I am a long standing member of the Patriot Guard Riders and would like to honor all of the fallen we have escorted to their final resting places. To these brave men and women who have given themselves to our freedom may God bless and care for you all in heaven. To the families left behind we offer our deepest thanks and sympathies. God bless the U.S.A Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
The man behind the mortar is my great grandfather Ivan Isaenko. He was a hero of the WW II. The caption behind the photo: "sergeant-major & his command have destroyed 60 German soldiers, an anti-tank gun and 4 machine-gun positions of fascists. My great grandfather was a real "Terminator" - for years of war he in fights has personally destroyed a large quantity of fascist soldiers (some hundreds persons). In armies of Russia, England and the USA there were very few such outstanding professional fighters, as my great-grandfather
This is a photo of my grandfather who joined the US Navy in December 1941. He was only sixteen years old at the time and lied about his age in order to join. He fought in the pacific front against the Japanese and served for twenty five years.
Here is my great-grandmother. She was a sergeant of a Polish Army and have struggled against a fascists.
Wow everyone has some pretty amazing stories! Just curious though when does the contest end? I probably am looking right past it.
I dont have pictures on my phone and if I'm not entered thats fine but I would like to take the time to honor my father. He served in the Army and went to West Point. He did not fight in any wars but he was stationed in Turkey in the 1980's and served for 10 years defending this great country and was a Luitenant Colonel. He is the best dad anyone could ask for. I would also like to honor my grand father (well both of them since they both served) who recently died. He also fought in the Army. My uncle who also fought in Vietnam and recieved a Purple Heart when a land mine exploded by his unit and he was one of 3 men to survive out of 20 men. Although I just turned 16, I want to go to West Point and carry on my familys tradition and serve this great country. Thanks for everyone else who has served and is currently serving, it really means a lot to me. God Bless.
Good luck at the MCRD; I was in the Marine Corps until 12/2003, great opportunity to improve yourself. Semper Fi!
I would like to Honor my grandfathers: Kenneth McCreedy USN - KOREA; Willard Stockton USMC GYSGT - WWII, KOREA, VIETNAM (deceased); My uncle Larry Stockton USAF, MSGT (Ret.); My great uncles John Edward McCreedy USN - recipient of the Bronze Star and Silver Star during WWII (deceased); Robert Keith McCreedy USN (deceased); James Willard (Bill) McCreedy USAF (deceased); Richard Thomas (Dick) McCreedy USAF - VIETNAM; Michael Eugene McCreedy US Army - VIETNAM (deceased); and also, Kenneth O. McCreedy - LT Col. (Ret.) US Army I don't have any photographs of them.
Here's a pic of my Great-Grandpa... He was born in 1902 and served in the Marine Corps during the 1920's. Unfortunately, he passed away during the 1980's, but he was such a strong person and always considerate to those he loved. I wouldn't have had the courage to join the Corps back in the 90's if it wasn't for him! I admire him for the sacrifices that he made for our country and for his family.
