I'm still deciding between two concepts for our new contest. Much depends on the prizes available to award, and how often I expect to be able to spin the reels.

Before I make a final decision on the contest concept and rules, I'd like to solicit suggestions for possible prizes.

It's likely that our new Spin To Win contest will have more winners than our previous Slot Machine Contest, which means our prizes will be of a smaller dollar value.

I'm looking for prize suggestions in the $10 to $20 price range, if purchased in-store from a numismatic retailer. I already have ideas for larger value prizes.

Prize suggestions do not necessarily have to be coins. Feel free to post a suggestion for anything related to the numismatic hobby.

Alot of proof sets are pretty cheap, they would make nice prizes. A 2013 red book could also work, though I'm sure there are lots of people here that already own one.

$10-20 prizes, I would suggest nicer buffalo nickels, older cents. Something where you would be recieving a coin that has value as a coin and not a piece of silver.

Not sure why you are giving up the wonderful prizes that you are but we appreciate the contest and the entertainment.

Also I mentioned before a slot machine / casino token. Is the new machine have a casino name on it? One from the casino where the machine is from would be cool. But casino tokens are interesting and often have some interesting history with them.
for small or side prizes, BU 2012 coins that could fill an album are nice ( I vote for Phili 'cause all I get here are Denver) or even bu new rolls of 1c or 5c 2012

Our new slot machine contest -- Spin To Win -- will be announced in a new thread tomorrow.

I'm excited about this game, which features new cash and numismatic prizes, different odds and reel symbols, and a few other interesting twists for players who pay attention to detail.

Our new machine is a Silver and Gold Express from the Cal-Neva Casino. She's a dollar coin 'electro-mechanical', that's been converted to free play. No need to insert Morgan or other dollars, though it's sweet to remember fondly when machines like it were loaded with the old cartwheels. Clang-clang-clang the coin tray would ring when paying out jackpots, a sound which was music to my ears when walking into a Casino in the 'Good Old Days'.

Since this single coin machine has only three reels, and fewer symbols than the machine in our first Slot Machine Contest, I've added a few new twists to the competition. We will be spinning the reels twice each round instead of just once, for example.

Players can still become "Jackpot Qualified" for cash and numismatic prizes by correctly predicting all of the symbols to appear in a single round (in the proper order, of course). We also introduce a new category of Bonus Play in this contest. Up to two players may become "Prize Qualified" in each round. A list of numismatic prizes that players can choose from will be posted when the Spin To Win contest goes live, sometime between 12:01am and 11:59am Pacific Time on Wednesday June 13.

In this new contest, it's more important to post your guesses as early as possible. Fewer reels and fewer symbols on each reel mean fewer possible guesses. And fewer possible good guesses too!

Here's the payoff table for "Jackpot Qualified" contestants in the Spin To Win Contest:



As you can see, the maximum payoff per spin is $50 in cash. But there's a couple of new payoff twists, too. Since each round of play consists of two spins, Jackpot Qualified players get two chances to win cash. That means the top prize is $100 cash. And better yet, Jackpot Qualified players are also Prize Qualified, and eligible to win up to four prizes in addition to their cash.

When no players are Jackpot Qualified, up to two prizes can be won each round by Prize Qualified players. I've set aside a bunch of small prizes for this contest, including one for the first person to correctly map the reels, and I may add other ways to win, too. It's a good way for this long time collector to clear out his junk box.

The frequency of our spins will be changing, due to the busyness of summer outdoor activities. I may not be able to spin the reels daily. It's also possible that I will hold two rounds of spins in a single day. Spins will be held at more random times, but always at least 12 hours apart. There's no 'extra spins' to keep track of, so no long waits between the close of entries and the posting of results. Players are either qualified for cash or prizes, or they are not.

One final comment: To prevent forum members from registering or using new identities specifically for Spin To Win, this contest will be open only to Member IDs who were registered on Coin Talk on or before our final "Jackpot Qualified" spin of the Slot Machine Contest, which was 5-31-2012.

More information and the complete rules will be posted when the contest goes live between 12:01am and 11:59am Pacific Time tomorrow.

We could have a contest within a contest called "Name The Slot Machine", that is if she doesn't already have a name.

 

I just realized that I never posted when thecointrader sent out the prize from the last contest. I thought I had posted photos and everything. I was pumped trying to take photos of this morgan becuase I realized the cheapest point and shoot in the house takes the nicest photos with no lights or anything fancy.
