This is just a great thread! I have my current one Old Copper back in post #40 and never appreciated how varied and rich the pieces can be. Thanks to everyone who posted theirs; I now have a much greater appreciation for this type. All the best. -L
Not super old, but 126 years is not too bad. It's still one of the nicest AU Indians I've ever seen. This coin changes color as you tilt it. Photo by Phil Arnold (PCGS TrueView) Photo by Todd Pollock (BluCC Photos)
I've been buying my copper in the chunked up time indicative grades, but some of these posts are pretty amazing. I think I'm going to hold out for a really nice high AU- low MS piece.
Thank you, Leadfoot - it is a nice coin, only the color is a little too uniform, I wonder if it has been recolored at some point. Here a few more, pre 1800 (my favorites)
Are there any late date die state collectors in here? Here is a 47 N18 terminal die state d I picked up this week. The large 7 over medium 7 is a rare variety as is and with the rim breaks from the 8 to *2 and *4 it's even more rare. This one is around 4th or 5th of 18 known.
I don't normally do late dates but I do have this one. 1846 N-18 ex-George French collection, B Max Mehl 1929 FPL, Ted Naftzger Lot 737. Noyes CC# 3 , Grellman CC# 6 I always wanted a Condition Census piece. This one is CC and has a great pedigree to go with it.
