There are a lot of times that I take new photos of coins that I've posted here before but don't know which thread to post them to. So I thought a thread where you can post new photos of coins you've posted before would be a good idea. If you can, post the old pics as well so we can see how your skills have improved!
Oh man, I have saved almost every image I have taken for a coin. My maegs span from the first week I started imaging up until now. So I will post a couple from old to new. This was one of the first coins I ever bought and also one of the first coins I imaged. This has been in the Dansco 7070 since I received it 4 years ago. It's not that my old images didn't pickup toning...the coin has toned in the album. The toning, camera, lighting and imaging improved over the years. Day One One year(ish)2-3 year(ish) Currently
I couldn't resist one more. I actually won (courtesy of @LostDutchman ) an image contest with this pic a few years ago. This is a recent pic and very accurate as to how it looks in hand. When I first started imaging coins, I was using a lamp that had a yellow/orange shade. Not a good choice.
Just reshot this 1950 Franklin NGC 66 OLD NEW I couldn't decide which obverse image i liked better so I put both.
Tried out a couple new things with this one. Moved the camera farther away from the slab and stuck a comb(since I don't have a poker chip, Paul) under one side of the slab to add a little angle to it. First, the old pics: Now, the new ones:
I must say that this is an invaluable exercise. There is no better way to increase your confidence in your numismatic photography than to re-image a coin and compare your progress from year to year. 1886 Morgan Dollar ANACS MS65 (Photo 2009) 1886 Morgan Dollar ANACS MS65 (Photo 2012) It is so satisfying to see improvement in focus, color, lighting, and contrast. I can't explain how much additional enjoyment the hobby of numismatic photography has given to my coin collecting.
I'm almost embarrassed to post images I took prior to January 2012 when I moved to my current set-up.
