Lighting angle makes it difficult to discern whether MS or AU58. I'll assume MS and guess MS62

Sure, there's luster; but I see wear all over the place. AU55

I definitely see some wear...and it looks like at one time it was lightly cleaned. However, cleaning on these is so common...and the coin has nice eye appeal so I will say it graded. I will give say AU53.

    AU-63.

[That is what I call a really nice AU-58]

I would call it AU-58, but I would not be surprised if some said cabinet friction MS-62/63. I would also say some of what people may thing is wear is the weak strike. Nice coin no matter the grade.

I still don't entirely understand how this is different from wear...but maybe that's just me. I know to the TPGs there is a difference, but I just don't get it.

No way that's an MS, too much wear on both sides, looking at other PCGS 1836 CBHs it should grade either AU53 or 55.

This coin seems really familiar. I recognize the die deterioration seen on the stars around 3 O'clock. CBD, have you posted this one before?

I am with you on this - too hard for me to tell the difference at times.

I'm going to stick with my grade of AU53...but I love the obviously die deterioration!
