PCGS guess the grade (and denomination!)

    I have no doubt that most of you guys know a lot more about these than I do, but I see too much wear for a 40. I'm sticking with 25.

    Shows how much I know about coins this old, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

    I was thinking VG10, at best. LOL I also had no idea what denomination until reading through the posts.

    Half dime it is! One of the keys is that the "Y" in "LIBERTY" looks more like a "V" as compared to the larger denominations. Also, on the 1800 date (which has the highest mintage), the 8 in the date is hand cut very strangely. It looks like two small loops clumsily stuck together. It is quite similar in size to the dime, so these do get confused often.

    It's a superb coin and doubtless worth a pretty penny. I think the eye appeal of the piece makes you think the grade is higher than it is. I would have guessed around 35 or 40 myself.
