Hallo, my friends. In this threar I want to share my coins from the last communist's country in the world. I mean the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. Although this state named "democratic", but Northern Korea is the totalitarian state in fact. Nothern Korea has an area 120540 sq.km., and a population about 20000000. It's a socialist's military dictatorship with backward economy. Population of NK is very poor. I suppose that a coins of NK are rather rare in USA. Or I'm not right?
Finally! Someone with some Korean coins to share! Yay! Some good examples here. My favorite is the last one, the one with the winged horse known as the "Chollima". That's an image based on an actual statue that stands on the Taedong River in Pyongyang. Actually, these coins are quite easy to find in the USA, especially at Ebay. I see them quite commonly at coin shows here (in the USA), too. Rarely are they ever pricey, except when struck in silver or gold. I don't collect North Korea, just South Korea. The North Koreans make a HUGE number of coins (commemoratives) that are basically just for export. They make way too many kinds of coins and that really of turns me off. Yes, North Korea is ostensibly a "socialist" state: They have mostly a "command"-type economy, but if you ever look into their ideology, you will notice that it is quite different from what was the typical Soviet, Cuban or East German-style "Socialist Realism" world-view. In "Socialist Realism" the people of the Capitalist countries (USA, West Germany, GB, Japan, etc) were seen as "mislead" by bad governments or just outright oppressed by undemocratic economics. Nonetheless, the people of capitalist countries were seen as basically just normal people, no better or worse than anybody else in the world. North Korean ideology is quite different: They see US Americans and Japanese as evil. Not just the governments, but the men, women and children of these societies are considered evil. Therefore, North Korean ideology is more akin to fascist ideology.
Nice design, like many of the ones you previously posted. But I suppose that, despite the denominations and composition, these do not actually circulate in North Korea ... Christian
There are some unusual coins from N. Korea. Here are some of them: They weight over 27 grams each - pretty big for them.
1 won 1987, aluminium, weight - 2,32 g., size - 27 mm, thickness - 1,79 mm. The single release only. I like the design very much. I must say that their coins are very nice.
