These are the pics from the website...not my own personal pics but I just purchased these coins from Beast Coins via VCoins.
Wow, those are not typical "first purchases"! I love them! Looks like someone has a lizard theme brewing
Thanks. I love ancient Greeks and I especially enjoy coins depicting owls. The Athens tetradrachm is my next purchase. I found a fine example with no test cuts and we'll centered. I am negotiating a more reasonable price now
I agree, nice first purchases. Zack is a great guy, (Beast coins). I have dealt with him since we were both newbies on Moneta-L and meeting up at CICF to discuss purchases 12 years ago.
And yes Zack is a great guy to deal with. I was very satisfied with his service and his pics are extremely accurate in depicting the detail of his coins
There are a number of ancient coins with lizards but they are often just a control mark or secondary device. Here's a sampling, all from CNG's archives: LUCANIA, Metapontion MACEDON, Eion ILLYRIA, Dyrrhachion Roman Republic, moneyer C. Piso L.f. Frugi ...and here's one I'd dearly love to have, ELIS, Olympia. 95th Olympiad
Welcome aboard, Nathan. Great choices! I've also purchased some pieces from Beast Coins and have always been satisfied.
Welcome & great first pickups. I have gotten several coins from Zack over the years. Pleasure to deal with.
Welcome Nathan => those are amazingly cool first ancients you've got there!! => "bravo" TIF => are all of those lizard-coins yours? (they are wonderful) I have this example to toss-into the ol' mix ...
Sadly, none of those are mine. I did however recently acquire an Eion like yours. I'll post it in the next day or two after I take some decent pictures.
Hey Nathan ... I'm a bit curious to know a bit more about that awesome coin with the owl and the gorgon on it (it is very cool)
Welcome aboard nathanj. Lots of avid and knowledgeable ancient collectors around here! Those are great coins for first getting your toes wet.
Welcome to the dark side I have a similar lizard hemidrachm and I look forward to your Owl tetradrachm:
Apollo Sauroktonos (lizard slayer) on a coin of Nikopolis ad Istrum under Geta. Be sure to find one of these with a clear lizard. Many are not so lizardly. This is a copy of a statue by the Greek Praxiteles. http://www.vroma.org/images/mcmanus_images/apollo_lizard.jpg
