    No, this is a single piece. It commemorates the discovery and scientific classification of the Archaeopteryx, which was 150 years ago when the coin came out.

    They could do worse than making a series of euros based on the Solnhofen limestone discoveries. That can keep their mint busy for a few decades.

    Nice modern design. don't think the new laser cut technology is any better than old technology.
