my coin is sick with measles

    Hello again all. I have a ton of crazy looking coins, but this one is weird and the last one for tonight. this has copper colored bumps all over it, on both sides; is this anything that happened at the mint? if so what is it please? Oh and daughter found this toooooo.

    environmental damage. did she find it in the parking lot ? or in the ground ?

    these are all raised bumps
    they were in a roll

    basically looks like it was super heated to where the outside started to boil

    This is the quality of us coinage these days. Give it half a century and you won't find a penny in good condition dating early 90s

    Partly due to the copper clad zinc it's made out of zinc corrodes easily and gets pits and bumps the coins of today are real crap in my opinion

    Well at least they don't have a made in china stamp on them.

    What you see going on with this coin is a plating issue. Beginning in 1982, the Mint started using copper plated zinc planchets. It's not uncommon at all for those coins to have plating bubbles and sometimes they cover the entire coin. You can read about it here-

    It's getting to the point that you can almost buy Chinese counterfeits cheaper than the mint can produce the real ones.
