I bought this out of a silver melt bin, but the only example I found online was in bronze (and it looks like it may be silvered bronze or just bronze that's been toning alongside silver coins for the last 180 years). Any idea what this is worth?
38mm in diameter, the obverse legend is "Erected in honour of their majesties first visit to Brighton" with a flag draped arch. The reverse reads "Glovers * Perry & Co * Hosiers * N. B. Ready Made Linen *" around "My "House" / 15 North St / Brighton".
Ah. I never would have guessed that. I wonder if this is a silver (or silvered) version of the same medal?
If you are selling it, to be on the sage side, describe it as white metal, thats what I do when I sell any of these Royal visit medallions.
I found a holed one that sold on eBay - the toning is definitely darker, but that may be due to the fact that this one was found with a metal detector (or would that be a... medal detector? ) -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Geo...640?pt=UK_Coins_Tokens_RL&hash=item5660837de8
