While there may be some graded higher, I'd be stoked that it's under 75 pieces. You also got as close to a 67 without having to pay the 67 price. Don't let one silly post ruin your feelings about the coin. Nice pick up!
Yup they've been running some real nice coins for decent prices tho I probaly shouldn't say this as I'll have more competition
And I just got this one today in the mail thanks to the lovely Amanda at Alahambra coin and her coin porn
1877-S Trade Dollar (PCGS XF40). I bought this raw coin off eBay last month and got a PCGS grade back last week. I've been looking for an attractive, colorful, and cheap Trade Dollar for about 3 years (for my colorfully toned U.S. Type Set) and finally found one that I like. Some very light hairlines on the upper left obverse, but not harsh enough to prevent a problem free grade.
Here's a cool coin I purchased the other day. I don't know much about it, but it looked interesting and I wanted to examine it closer in person. Graded AU-55
Forgot to add it's an Un Sol with a 1/2 Real counter stamped directly in the center. It seems to have been intentional to maybe make the new coin acceptable for commerce. Really cool looking piece and for the age and what it looks like, I was happy to add it to my collection.
that is so cool. I have to ask...how much do these type coins go for ? if you do not want to answer I will understand. curious here cause I might want 1 of these in far future.
I know you do I wasn't worried about you just the rest of the world is where that pretty coin your avatar is came from I been doing better at s&b then heritage lately ha weekly sales been a bunch of problem or common crap and a couple decent things with through the roof reserves and they concentrate everything decent onto their signature sales and it's coin overload I like to be able to buy a nice coin or 2 every couple of weeks or so not a big time coin but nice say $500-1000
These Peruvian Sols were re-monetized for use in Guatemala by counterstamping. Notice the legends on the reverse stamp: REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA // 1 1/2 REAL. You've got great example!
These things confuse me a bit. A 1/2 real was counter stamped onto a Peruvian Sol, and now it's worth or called a Peso?
That's all I know - I've seen them posted in the World Coins section. You might want to start a thread there, asking for info.
LOL. You and I are probably looking at the same coins. BTW, the avatar came from a Legend Morphy auction. Their auctions usually have some spectacular coins, but many are so far out of my reach.
