I have inherited two bills that are listed as Japanese Pesos. Can anyone tell me about these paper bills and if they are worth anything at all

Not a lot really, unless you have some Japanese occupied Malayan currency, which is not too common. Do post pictures if you can.

Actually the only peso notes listed in the Japanese Numismatic Dealers Association catalog were issued for use in the occupied Philippines during WW II.

1, 5 and 10 peso notes, plus smaller 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos notes were originally issued. A later series included new 1, 5 and 10 peso notes, and added 100, 500 and 1000 peso currency.

They are all relatively common in both circulated and uncirculated condition, and are priced between ¥100 (~85¢) and ¥1,000 (~$8.50) in the 2006 catalog, depending on condition.

    Japanese Occupation of Malaya.

Gxseries, the banknotes issued for the Japanese Occupation of Malaya are denominated in Dollars in Cents.
Those for the Japanese Occupation of Burma are denominated in Rupees & Cents, which is strange, considering that the Rupee/Cent currency system was that of Ceylon,as opposed to the Rupees,Annas,Pice,& Pies currency system.

Judiq, these notes denominated in Pesos & Centavos are listed in Pick under the Philippines, but in the back of the chapter in a section called 'Japanese Occupation Issues'.Some of the notes have a purple handstamp, which are of interest,as some of these are scarcer than notes without the handstamp.

Aidan Work, do you have a picture of this purple handstamp? Or can you at least describe its size or location on the note?

Rexesq,it is a large purple oval handstamp that is stamped randomly.A typical inscription is 'JAPWANCAP'.
