I recently clicked on one of those articles about the habits of highly successful people and the first thing on the list was get up early and exercise, and I thought to myself, "You know what? I'm doin' alright." :)

Lots of good advice, but then the group has been trying to help him for about three years now and nothing changes.

This latest episode will last until he finds the next batch of coins he cannot possibly live without.

I wonder what the next episode in this endless soap opera will bring? Young and the Restless have been trying to find him.

it sounds so simple but very hard to follow thru sometimes. It still amazes me when young people say they are "bored". there is so much "to do". some people could amaze themselves if they did a "to do" list out and started checking things off that have had on the back burner for so long... myself included. my "to do" list is so long it's hard to find time to do it all. still doing some of it feels so good. feeling that I have actually accomplished something.

I don't write to do list because then I have to do stuff. It gets in the way of my sleep.

tim. buddy. i have a really harsh reality you havent faced yet. if your entire collection is worth $1100, one must assume it is made of lower end or low value coins. NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE LINING UP TO BUY THEM. youre not gonna liquidate them. with that said, here is the most important point for you to take away.

you need to get a real job. you need to become an adult. you need a car, your own place, and a chick. its hard enough to get my wifey turned on with my silver/gold porn, and she has no choice but to be stuck with me. you need some mojo buddy. i feel like all of these posts you make are just....depressing.

someone had this talk with me once to, when i was 16. i was really mad at them. then one day i woke up and realized they were right, thats why he was "blanking" cheerleaders...so i found a new job and quit being a cashier at publix for [minimum wage +$0.50]/hr and decided if i wanted to be something, i was gonna have to work for it. you dont want to be a drone, i know you dont. think how many YEARS you would have to work at your current job to get your dream coin...will you even live that many years?

    you live once. get some.

Thats a good point. Your collection is mainly Great Britain, so you have to find someone that is as big of GB nut as you. Otherwise you may take a big loss

Why on earth do you even have credit card debit if you will only need "a little bit" of what you can recoup from a maybe $800 collection to pay it off?

Perhaps, but selling this collection could represent upwards of 1/10th of his total yearly income, so to him it may not be such a drop in the bucket. This is not to say that selling is the answer to all of his problems as clearly there are bigger mountains to climb, but in his present situation, every little bit, if used wisely for once, should help.

Well everything has been listed on eBay. I have 6 nicer coins put back to send to PCGS once I find somebody willing to submit them.

I also have a small tote of cheap coins that I'm going to sell 4 for a dollar at the flea market.

Once it's all said and done, after getting some debts paid down, I will have about $500 in capital to use with my business. That $500 is not getting spent on personal items, just various things I can sell at various venues.

I realized that the value of my collection isn't very high (like in the tens of thousands), and it's a good asset to liquidate and put to better use.

Instead of having that asset sit around, I can hopefully turn that $500 into $1,500 by year's end to help with moving expenses.

I will start collecting again once in college, a little at a time (depending on how much rent and other items will be).

When I get a good job I will be collecting full time again.

Also in the mean time I'm going to try and hone my coin collecting skills and better myself on various educational subjects.

I might even take the ANA correspondence courses as well. I have a year of numsimatic news subscription left, so I will take time to read things in there as well.

I realize that coin collecting and working for minimum wage are not a good mix. There are tons of MS grade early British coins that can be had for a fraction of US coins, but it's hard to drop $1,000 on a coin when you don't make that in 2 months.

I don't really consider my collection being gone a big loss, it was fun collecting, I actually enjoy hunting down coins to buy. Nothing in my collection was rare or hard to replenish, so it won't be much of a task to replenish it.

I will still be on here, to identify and estimate grades for commonwealth coins. I will still be selling coins I find at shows, and other places.

Hi Detecto. what is your Ebay store link ?? fellow members please do NOT put him down for buying lower end or lower value coins. I would guess to say that there are many of us that buy lower end coins. the beauty of coin collecting is that anyone guy or girl can buy coins cheaply or very high end. we are not all millionaires. 1 last thought that I can vividly remember my father telling me before I moved out on my own was... "son your mother and I are NOT going to LIVE forever" and then WAMMMOOOO that reality hit home so hard... like a reality slap.... and then I was ready to move out on my own.

Well Tim, I really really hope you follow at least some of the sage advice here. Nothing would make me happier than to see you take wing and soar.

You know in the whole scheme of things coins really don't matter a rat's &rse when you have a wife, kids, concerns like family living in a potential war-zone etc. There have been a couple of times in my life where I sold off significant portions of my collection - I once had an enviable collection of $20 Libs and Saints, to pay unanticipated bills etc.

Unless you have some family heirloom, which I have a handful that have been in the fam for over a hundred years, everything else is easily replaceable. I have always felt that the nice thing about the coins I have owned and sold is that at least I got a significant portion of what I paid for them when I sold them, and on more than a few occasions I got significantly more.
