I am guessing your grade of this coin is a (F)-Fine maybe $3.00 but it's cleaned so not sure what the value is ??? nice early date. cool coin.
Wow, thanks for the speedy response spirityoda! Its a bit of a family heirloom as my great grandmother found it on the side of the road when she was walking to school, in Wales of all places! We've been wondering what it was for years, so many thanks
well I collect some Egypt coins. so it looked very familiar to me. here's a Turkey coin I got recently at my local coin shop: this looks very similar to Egypt coins, but is not.
your very welcome. your great grandmother was very lucky finding that coin. the stories that coin could tell (how it got there). the story is worth much more than the coin itself.
here's a better pic of his coin in better grade (not my coin) anyhow that signature squiggly thing in the middle of the coin is usually a dead give away to me that it's from Egypt. added info... other coins from Turkey have this same design. sorry I mislead you at first. ya learn as you go.
So I found out the squiggly thing is called a Tughra. Is that the Sultans name? I figured out the date on the reverse, what else is on there? Sorry Micwil, I guess I've hijacked your post. Just curious
my guess it is some ones name. I am not sure but my guess would be the denomination of the coin 40 para (quirsh)
