Can anyone tell me anything about a coin I have had for years. Its a Gold Plated Kennedy1983 - Stamped with 1980 above In God and on other side 1980 We Trust. I have a certificate. I think it was an error by the mint. It says that there were only 53,000 made. I have had the coin since 1983. Regards slagambi
I don't see how it could be an "error" when it was obviously made that way intentionally, and the fact that the dates are stamped into the coin suggest that it was not done by the mint. In any case, this particular novelty is well known, although the dates almost certainly read 1960/1980. (They did make some 1960/1985.) JFK was elected in 1960, so this is a 20th anniv item. Most but not all were gold plated.
