hey guys I just got in to coin roll hunting I want to know what coins should I get rolls of? whats the most promising?
what are you collecting? you can find silver in dimes and quarters, but they are not common and halves have a lot more dates withe silver. and nickels 1942-1945 have 35% silver. and cents are cool cause of all the errors you can find.
If you will be coin roll hunting, I suggest highly you educate yourself on the varieties out there to search for. Varieties are the best things to find nowadays, as most silver and rare dates/mm have been picked through already. I would pick up the appropriate Cherry pickers guide for whatever denomination you wish to pursue.
Personally I would suggest cents or nickels. Both tend to have older coins in them since they were not silver before 1965, and both tend to have more varieties. But, all of them are in one book, the Vol I of the Cherrypickers guide. I bet you a dollar that if you are roll searching and buy and use this book it will pay for itself in a few weeks, (or sooner). Knowledge is the most important thing you can have in coin collecting. Luck helps, but I would choose knowledge over luck if I had to.
Its about all known varieties per date and mm. Pull out a coin, look up the date, and see if there are known doubled dies or other varieties to look for. Its just a guidebook of known varieties. Its not ABOUT roll hunting, but extremely useful FOR roll hunting.
Coin roll hunting can be a major pain if you don't have a lot of free time. You have to open up 100+ rolls sort through em take out the ones you want. look for varieties (optional) then put all your reject coins in rolls and take them to another bank.
I have a lot of free time I never think coin roll hunting is boring even if I don't find any thing good
