Here are 3 coins I'm going to be walking through at PCGS at CSNS tomorrow. Thoughts? Coin 1: 1880 O Morgan Coin 2: 1880 O Morgan Coin 3: 1890 S Morgan
1880-O #1: MS64+ Pretty clean but I think the rim bump and chatter behind the nose are enough to disqualify from gem grade 1880-O #2: MS63 PL 1890-S: MS66 I think the reverse is not premium gem but the fantastic obverse should carry the coin to premium gem grade.
My grades (not theirs) - 64, 63 (PL ? ehhhhh, maybe) and 64. The last one, combined the 3 areas of rim dings kill it for me, especially the bad one. Pretty dang close to border line as it is.
#1: Split grade 64/65 - the hit on the nose hurts. #2: 64, poss PL. #3: 65+ PS: Can I metal detect your back yard? How do you get this stuff!
It has taken me years of very hard work to earn a reputation that allows me to see these treasures come in my door. I do consider myself truly blessed.
I'm going to say 64 on all 3. The hits on the first 1880-O really kill me, but I think they will give it a 64. The second one...might get PL. Hard to say based on the photos.
64, 64, 64. All have beautiful surfaces, but all three have hits in significant places that would spoil obvious gem coins otherwise. The 90s is darn close to a 66, but the bad rim nick kills that. I agree with our good Dentist on the 80 o being a possible PL--the reflectivity looks there, but hard to establish that with a photograph.
