These were coins struck on square planchets because they were easier to produce... You see them often in places that were under siege... This piece, however was made square out of necessity and ease of production really.

I like the Austrian talers the best. If I had enough disposable income, I'd much rather collect these than all the modern gold in the world.

I would like to learn more about the jetton. I own zero jettons in my collection so just about anything you tell me about the jetton will be appreciated.

Obviously, it is silver & I believe it's unusual for a jetton to be made of precious metal. Perhaps it is a very important piece used for counting a big number or possibly a large denomination piece made to actually circulate as token money during a coin shortage? Like I said, I'd like to learn more about your jetton. Do you know the country of origin & what the Hebrew number is all about? I think the numbers include, five, six, & ten but the whole jetton is a complete mystery to me.

That link explains a lot. It is a "freedom of religeon" silver jetton minted in Dordrecht (located in modern day Netherlands) during the Dutch war of independence. The Hebrew spells "Jehova" and not the simple numerals as I originally thought.

Man, good thing I am not a dealer. I would lose a lot of money, but have lots and lots of coins to play with!
