British tokens

    token halfpenny 18th century--SANDWICH--by royal charter in 1155 five ports on the south east coast of England were put in a confederation called the cinque ports--hastings ,new Romney,hythe,dover and sandwich their duties were to maintain ships for when the crown should need them and help trade------s scan0008.jpg scan0011.jpg scan0011.jpg scan0011.jpg scan0011.jpg sandwich is no longer a port due too the change in coast line it is now two miles inland

    Those are usually called Conder tokens, after the collector James Conder. That stork design suggests Cambridgeshire but I am not sure. The beehive on the other side is fairly common, and so is the "Industry has it's (sic!) sure reward" motto.
