Picked this up at a local shop It is my first Republic coin and I am thrilled!!!!! The toning is unbelievable! Q Cassius AR Denarius. Head of Bonus Eventus (Good Outcome), Scepter behind / eagle on thunderbolt right between lituus & jug, Q CASSIVS below. Syd 916, Cr428/3. FAMILY: Cassia 7. sear5 #391 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintus_Cassius_Longinus
Not only is it a beautiful specimen, the type is not one of the common ones we see every day. I don't have it and I doubt many of the rest here do either. As a 'first' Republican, this is a great start.
Wow, TJC => what a sweetie!! ... fantastic portrait (oh, and ya gotta love the eagle-coins!!) => I'm totally jealous of your new pick-up!!
This one came from an old collection that the shop owner purchased in the last six months. I was allowed to look through all of the coins before "some" of them were put out for sale. The shop owner grabbed quite a few for his personal collection including an Mark Antony/Octavian, Pompey, Caligula, Clodius Albinus, Galba, Otho, Vitallius, Nerva, Balbinus, and several more republican coins all in VF+ condition. It was great just being able go through all of those amazing coins!!! I am thrilled to have gotten this one! I also am liking the connection Q Cassius had to Julius Caesar and of course there is the other "Cassius" from his family who helped Brutus plot Caesars murder! And speaking of Julius Caesar, here is the one other coin from the same collection I have from the same collection (I have shared it before but can't help wanting to share again)
Sheesh, my local coin shops rarely have anything earlier than 1870. Awesome coin - I suggest going back there ASAP!
